NEET UG 2026: Notification, Pattern, Syllabus, Cutoffs, and Complete Breakdown

By someone who scored 680 in NEET, missed AIIMS Delhi by 12 marks, and learned everything about this exam the hard way

3 May 2026 ⚡ 720 Marks 💰 1.1 Lakh MBBS Seats 📊 24 Lakh+ Candidates

Let me take you to June 2025. I was sitting in my room in Kota, staring at my NEET result on the screen – 680 marks. My parents were happy. My teachers were happy. But I wasn't. AIIMS Delhi's cutoff that year was 692. I missed it by 12 marks. Twelve. Marks. One wrong question in Physics. One moment of carelessness.

My father, who had spent his entire savings on my coaching, just hugged me and said, "Beta, doctor banoge, AIIMS mein nahi toh kahi aur. Par doctor banoge." (Son, you'll become a doctor, if not at AIIMS then somewhere else. But you'll become a doctor.) Today, I'm in my first year at Maulana Azad Medical College, one of India's top colleges, and I understand what he meant.

This blog isn't copied from coaching websites. This is what actually happens in NEET UG – the registration process, the syllabus, the exam pattern, the cutoff trends, and the strategy that got me into MAMC despite missing AIIMS.

What is NEET UG? The Reality Check

NEET UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduates) is India's single entrance exam for admission to undergraduate medical and dental courses (MBBS, BDS), as well as AYUSH courses (BAMS, BHMS, BUMS, BSMS) and nursing programs across the country.

Why NEET UG is Worth It

The NEET exam isn't just about becoming a doctor. It's about:

  • Saving lives – Every day, you'll make a difference
  • Respect – "Doctor" is the most respected profession in India
  • Job security – Doctors are always needed
  • Financial independence – Starting salary in government colleges: ₹60,000-80,000; private practice can earn much more
  • Global opportunities – Indian medical degrees are recognized worldwide
  • Your father's pride – Nothing beats seeing your parents' faces when you wear that white coat

Remember: Over 24 lakh students appear for NEET, but only about 1.1 lakh get MBBS seats. The difference between those who make it and those who don't is not intelligence – it's consistency, smart work, and never giving up.

The NEET 2026 notification is out, registration is open, and the exam is on May 3, 2026. If you're reading this in early 2026, you have exactly 2-3 months. It's not enough time to start from scratch – but if you've been preparing, these months can make all the difference.

I missed AIIMS by 12 marks. Today, I'm at MAMC, and I wouldn't change a thing. Your journey will have its own twists and turns. Trust the process.

See you in the white coat.
